THE MAP IS NOT THE TERRITORY (2024)

Juline Hadaya is a London-based artist and filmmaker, of SYRIAN origin, whose interdisciplinary practice spans sound, image, and sculpture. Her work engages with memory regimes and speculative futures within both digital and physical geographies of violence. Rooted in archival research, digital data and lived experience, her work navigates the interplay between intimate subjectivities and collective imaginaries, embracing a narrative-driven sensibility intertwined with conceptual and poetic rigor. She recently completed her masters in Visual Anthropology at Goldsmiths, University of London.

HER work has been exhibited internationally, including ‘Beyond A Reasonable Doubt (2022) at reference point, London, with WANAWAL, and ‘Crystal Clear’ (2024) at bayt al mamzar, UAE, in collaboration with studio salasil — an exhibition recognized by FRIEZE as one of top ten globally in 2024. Most recently, she premiered her debut feature-length essay film ‘Shapeshifting’ (2024), a meditation on the post-war Syrian condition as seen through the lens of the alternative music scene, commissioned by Boiler Room (UK). Parallel to her moving image and visual practice, Hadaya is also an active sound artist, with performances at venues including Ormside Projects and Cafe Oto in London, and Kanaal40 in Amsterdam.
